 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NIGERIAN TRAFFICKER 'ASEMOTA',BAGS 22 YEARS JAIL TERM RECENTLY IN THE UK.{PHOTOS}.

               Franca Asemota,the Nigerian child cum women trafficker who was arrested by the operatives of the EFCC,on wednesday,March 24,2015 in Benin,Edo State on suspicion of money laundering and later extradited to the United Kingdom for prosecution has been sentenced to 22 years imprisonment at the Isleworth Crown Court on twelve counts that included conspiracy to traffic persons for sexual exploitation,trafficking persons outside of the UK for sexual exploitation and assisting unlawful immigration.38 year old Asemota was part of a criminal network that trafficed girls,boys and women from Nigeria to Europe,using the threat of ''juju  magic'' to guarantee their compliance.For many months,she was wanted by the UK government for using London Heathrow airport as a transit hub.After her arrest by the EFCC,Asemota was extradited to the UK on 27th January 2016 following a Federal High Court ruling on the extradition request filed by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.The successful prosecution underscores the important role cooperation between law enforcement organizations across the world.In this case between the National Crime Agency of the UK and the EFCC,can play in fighting transnational organized crime.more photos below.
