U.S imposes sanctions on former Congo President Joseph Kabila The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila for his support of Rwanda-backed M23 rebels and for fueling political instability in Congo's troubled east. The U.S. Treasury Department said M23 and its political-military arm, the Congo River Alliance (AFC), had been stoking violent conflict in eastern DRC, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians and a mass displacement crisis. Treasury said Kabila had provided financial support to the AFC in order to influence the political situation in eastern DRC, while encouraging DRC troops to defect and join AFC forces. It said Kabila was working to regain influence over the government by backing a candidate opposed to the current leader. Ogun State Government has affirmed its readiness to commission the first phase of the MTR Garden City in Isheri area of the State by April 2017.Managing Director of Ogun Property and Investment Corporation,OPIC,Mr. Jide Odusolu,confirmed this while speaking to journalists after the inspection tour of the project by the Ogun State Governor,Senator Ibikunle Amosun,on Monday.''The garden city has a total of six hundred,2 and 3 bedroom housing units but by April,2017,we'll be commissioning the first phase of the project which has One hundred and fifty units,'' the OPIC M.D revealed.
