 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Inspector Idris Musa eventually died at about 0100hrs of 24th July, 2017 from injury he and two (2) other Police Officers sustained when they came under attack of remnant of Boko-Haram insurgents who were moving to attack public centres, places of worship and other locations in Kano metropolis in the early hours of 23rd July, 20172. The Boko-Haram remnant insurgents attacked the Special Police Team with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Fire arms. The Team repelled the attack and in the process three (3) Boko-Haram insurgents sustained serious bullet wound injuries and three (3) Police Officers equally wounded. The Special Police Team successfully prevented the Boko-Haram insurgents from carrying out their planned attacks on selected targets in Kano metropolis on the fateful date. 
3. The late Inspector of Police was a member of the Joint Police Special Team set up by the Inspector General of Police to trail, arrest and prevent the remnant of Boko-Haram insurgents from regrouping to attack innocent Nigerians in Kano and other northern States
.4. However, three (3) of the confessed Boko-Haram insurgents arrested and paraded with bullet wounds they sustained during exchange of fire with the Police Special Team in the early hours of 23rd July, 2017 namely, (i) Abba Mohammed 20years from Niger Republic (ii) Usman A. Buhari 23years an indigene of Borno State (iii) Iliyasu Abdullahi 46years of Gezawa, Kano State died later on 23rd July, 2017 from the bullet wound injuries.
5. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni commiserate with family of late Inspector Idris Musa, extol and appreciate his act of bravery, gallantry and supreme sacrifice of losing his life in active service to his fatherland, Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force.5. He will forever be remembered as one of the heroes of the Nigeria Police Force in the fight against Boko-Haram insurgency in the Nigeria. His death will definitely not be vain.
6. The Inspector General of Police has directed that late Inspector Idris Musa be given a befitting burial.
