 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.         The Governor of Ekiti state Dr. Ayodele Fayose has been formally invested and awarded as the grand patron of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria, Ekiti state chapter in recognition of the various tremendous achievements and milestones he has crossed in the state's educational sector.
The investiture which held today in Ado- Ekiti, was held as part of proceedings of the Parents Teachers Association and Education stakeholders Interaction day celebrations.
Governor Ayodele Fayose who was tagged a great leader by the representatives of NAPTAN acknowledged that the Governor has restored the lost glory of Ekiti state's educational sector and provided an enabling environment for teachers and parents to thrive effectively.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ayodele Fayose while appreciating the gesture of the Association dedicated the occasion of his investiture and award to the education Family and to the impending victory of his Deputy Governor Prof. Kolapo Olusola as the Governor of Ekiti state.
He said: "My award is dedicated to the Education family which is the most important in my administration owing to the fact that if you build all the bridges in this world without Education, it is a complete waste. Any one given education has been given all that matters in this world".
"I also dedicate it to the victory of Kolapo Olusola as the incoming governor of Ekiti state. This election will be the easiest in the history of this state and I urge you all to vote for him".
While appreciating the PTA, Governor Fayose also assured parents and teachers of his continual support saying "parents and teachers are the major stakeholders of education and I will always be available, hold meetings with them and contribute immensely to ensure that they have an effective working relationship".
Earlier, the PTA chairman, Ekiti Chapter Chief Osadare Samuel Adeola lauded the Fayose led administration and noted that the face of education in Ekiti has changed positively due to his introduction of innovative programmes.
"As a result of the Education summit, Education intervention and other innovations of Governor Fayose, things have changed drastically as far as education development is concerned in Ekiti. Teachers are well recognized and he has done well for our parents of which we are grateful to him"
In another development, the Governor who expressed his delight awarded the cash prize of 450,000 to winners of the NAPTAN, Ekiti state chapter's Quiz competition in the primary and secondary school category. He also promised that he would empower 10,000 registered youths to the tune of 10,000 each and the PTA would be given a bus to be used as an aid in their activities.More photos below.
