NIWA Pledges Zero Tolerance for Waterway Accidents The Chairman of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Alhaji Muktar Shagari, has vowed stricter enforcement of safety regulations and improved monitoring to curb accidents on Nigeria’s inland waterways. Shagari made the pledge on Thursday in Lokoja while resuming office, saying safety would be non-negotiable under his leadership and aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the Board would prioritise tougher safety enforcement, enhanced monitoring systems and professionalism to prevent avoidable loss of lives on the waterways.

The lady on the photos was allegedly raped and killed by fulani herdsmen in Nteje, Oyi LGA of Anambra State.
The yet-to-be-identified lady was said to have been going to work in a farm in the community when the fulani herdsmen accosted her.
According to some of the villagers who found her body, it was believed that she struggled with her assailants before they overpowered her and snuffed the life out of her.
There was a mark on the right side of her face which is probably as a result of a blow from a sharp machete.
"We saw her slippers and her "Holy Rosary" some few yards away from her mutilated body and signs of struggling on the sand where it was believed she was dragged." one of the indigenes of the community said.
On how it was ascertained that it was the handwork of Fulani Herdsmen, the villager who pleaded for anonymity said that it was very possible because the footprints and cattle dung could be seen all over the scene of the murder.
"It is the work of the fulani herdsmen because we usually see them pass here on daily basis. "Look at this place (pointing at the scene of the murder)...ifuro nzoma ukwu ehi na nsii fa ebe a (can't you see the cow footprints and cow dung here" he said.
Our correspondence tried to reach the authorities of the Nteje community to hear from them but it was to no avail. When one of the elders of the community was contacted, he confirmed the incident but said he was clueless as to the identity of the murdered lady.
"I heard that one woman was killed in the bush but i don't know whether she is from this town or not...that's all i can say for now".For now, there seems to be an uneasy calm in the community as people were seen discussing the incident in hushed tones.May her soul rest in peace.
