 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ORTOM ASSURES BATCH A CORPS MEMBERS OF ADEQUATE SECURITY AS THEY SERVE IN THE STATE.[PHOTOS}.

     Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has today assured Batch A corps members posted to the state of adequate security for their lives and property as they serve their country in the State.
The Governor stated this at the passing out parade of about 2300 of Batch A corps members at Wannune NYSC Orientation Camp.
Speaking through the Special Adviser on Bureau of Youth and Sports Prof Jonathan Uever, the Governor affirms that adequate measures to ensure security and safety of corps members across the length and breath of the State have been put in place. Ortom who described the corps members as CHANGE AGENTS urged them not to entertain fear to go to wherever they are posted.
Governor Ortom also directed immediate reconstruction of the camp's multipurpose hall that was blown out by storm. He stated that when the edifice is completed it will surely be the best in the country.
Earlier speaking, the camp comptroller, Mrs Herbert Awakessien appreciated Benue people for their unequal hospitality and urged them to continue in the spirit.
The Comptroller asked the Governor to expedite action on the construction of the Multipurpose hall as the administration of the camp will be difficult without it.
Mrs Awakessien acknowledged that the 2018 Batch A corps members are the best in terms of good conduct, patriotism, hard work and dedication since she assumed duties in the state on the 9th of January, 2017.
She admonished them to be good ambassadors of their families and states as they serve in Benue.The camp Comptroller appreciated Governor Ortom for attaching premium importance on security and welfare of corps members posted to the state.More photos below.
