 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.      Brigadier General Zakari Logun Abubakar takes over command of 32 Artillery Brigade Akure from Brigadier General James Ataguba who has recently been posted to Land Forces Simulation Centre as the Director, Training and Operations and Deputy Director General.
The outgoing commander, Brigadier General James Ataguba in his valedictory speech at the send forth organised in his honour, thanked the media organisations, government functionaries and heads of sister security agencies in Ondo and Ekiti states for their professional support throughout his tenure. He enjoined them to give the same support to the new commander, Brigadier General Zakari Logun Abubakar.
Brigadier General Abubakar is a member of 40 Regular Combatant Course and a seasoned Air Defence Artillery officer. He was a member of the Directing Staff(DS) at the National Defence College (NDC) Abuja, until his appointment as the brigade commander.
