 NLC Cancels Centralized May Day Celebrations in Rivers, Edo Amid Governance and Interference Concerns The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has canceled centralized May Day celebrations in Rivers and Edo States, citing the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers and alleged political interference in the Edo State council. The decision, announced in letters dated April 22, 2025, and signed by NLC Deputy General Secretary Ismail Bello, directs affiliated unions in both states to hold Workers’ Day events on May 1, 2025, at their respective secretariats. In Rivers State, the NLC condemned the appointment of a sole administrator under emergency rule, calling for the restoration of elected governance. The letter to Rivers State NLC Chairman Alex Agwanwor instructed unions to organize a peaceful rally at the state NLC secretariat, focusing on advocating for democratic governance and improved worker welfare.     The EFCC, on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 arraigned a fake foreign currency dealer, Titilayo Eboh before Justice M. L. Abubakar of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She was arraigned on five- counts bordering on running a banking business without a licence and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1(2) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2014.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
