 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. SANWO-OLU HAILS TEACHERS FOR REFORMING EDUCATION SECTOR.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      Wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of Lagos State teachers in imparting knowledge and virtues to school pupils since the inception of the present administration.
The Governor’s wife also commended all stakeholders in the education sector for their cooperation and commitment in helping to scale up service delivery in terms of giving quality education to school children in the State.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu gave the commendation, on Monday, at the 2019 end of year party organised by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) for headteachers and other basic education stakeholders.
She appreciated the entire education family saying, “I congratulate the Executive Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King; and the Permanent Board member of the LASUBEB family for the reforms they are championing and their unwavering commitment towards transforming the education sector in our dear State.”
She maintained that several initiatives have been implemented to reposition the education sector for efficiency and top-notch service delivery, stressing that the teachers and other stakeholders have been active participants in actualising the vision of government for the sector.
“This is why I fully commend and associate myself with the decision of LASUBEB to organise this sort of party to appreciate the stakeholders for the journey so far and to look forward to better years ahead,” the First Lady stated.
Represented at the event by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, the First Lady urged teachers and other stakeholders within the education sector to rededicate themselves to quality service delivery in the New Year.
While assuring teachers that the State Government will ensure the provision of a conducive atmosphere in terms of physical infrastructure and welfare of teachers as well as academic staff, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu urged teachers to invest their time in exposing students to the best education that will impact positively and help them live a fulfilled life.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja, also speaking at the event, buttressed the fact that the teaching profession stands tall among other noble professions globally.
She disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu already approved the rehabilitation, renovation and reconstruction of schools to guarantee a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Adelaja assured that the training programme already started for some teachers in the State would go round all the teachers, just as she solicited their cooperation towards achieving the present administration’s goals for the education sector.
Extolling the sterling qualities of the teachers, the Chairman of LASUBEB, Mr. Alawiye-King said, “As teachers, you play essential roles in helping our pupils unfold, blossom and discover their true capabilities as they journey to become responsible, fulfilled and productive citizens of our dear Nation”.
He implored the teachers to leave no child behind in the access to quality education by putting in more efforts at creating and espousing new initiatives that would strengthen public primary schools.
Alawiye-King promised that concerted efforts will be made to ensure teachers are digitally-inclined and technologically savvy.More photos below.
