 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. OHANEZE NDI IGBO ELDERS COUNCIL MEETS IN IMO STATE; DISCUSSES THE UNITY OF IGBOS & NEED FOR RESTRUCTURING.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

 

For fairness, equity and harmonious co-existence of Nigerians, there is need for the global unity of Ndi Igbo and restructuring.
The Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Worldwide Elders Council meeting led by Prof. George Obiozor, The President-General Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, was well attended in Owerri as all Igbo leaders gathered at the Imo state Government House Banquet Hall to deliberate on the welfare of Ndi Igbo.
Professor George Obiozor, highlighting the points of the communiqué disclosed that:
- On the Issue of Security/insecurity which has become worrisome in the country agreed on need for a strong security outfit that will address issues that are peculiar to the nature, culture, tradition, topography etc of the people and also give support to efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
- On the issue of the Economy of Ndi Igbo, The communiqué emphasized the need to further pursue and implement the Alaigbo Stabilization Fund which was initiated by the immediate past administration of Chief Nnia Nwodo. They therefore adopted the report of the Alaigbo Stabilization Funds Steering Committee for the improvement and investment into the welfare and growth of Igbo land.
- On Nigerian President of Igbo extraction, the Elders Council mandated the President General to work in close consultation with the Igbo socio-cultural and political intelligential to pursue the task of ensuring that the Igbo take their turn in producing the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 General elections. This, the council insisted, is only achievable in consultation with other ethnic nationalities as the elders urged every Igbo man or woman with the needed capacity to show interest in the 2023 presidential race.
- On Education, the Council mandated Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership to pursue a deliberate policy of ensuring a noticeable and measurable improvement in the quality of education in Igboland.
Also they noted that while it recognizes the right of every Nigerian to freedom of speech, nobody henceforth, has the authority to speak on behalf of Ndigbo except the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. To that effect, the Elders therefore directed the Ohanaeze leadership to go into direct talks with other ethnic groups and governments at all levels on ways of finding a lasting solution to the myriads of problems facing the Nigerians nation.

The host Governor and Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma commended the galaxy of Igbo leaders which comprised of the intelligentials, religious leaders, business men and women, politicians and other professionals gathered under one roof to reinvent the Igbo spirit, especially now the country is passing through a difficult phase.
Governor Uzodimma encouraged them to look into the existing security arrangements in the various Igbo States and communities and see how best to support and equip them to continue to secure Igboland while the various Governors look for ways of more sophisticated security arrangements for the entire zone.More photos below.
