 Obafemi Hamzat laments high electricity tariff, says his bill rose by 974% in a month Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state, says his electricity bill inexplicably skyrocketed from N2.7 million in March to N29 million in April. Hamzat said the electricity distribution company (DisCo) also frustrated his efforts to utilise the prepaid meter he procured. Punch reports that the deputy governor spoke on Monday during a roundtable discussion between the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Lagos state government in Victoria Island. Both parties were billed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the electrification of rural communities in Lagos. Hamzat, who represented Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, at the event, decried what he called “crazy bills” from DisCos. “People that are trying to survive, and the common denominator for them is power. 70-YEAR OLD WIDOW'S HOUSE DEMOLISHED AS HER STEPSON ALLEGEDLY THROWS HER OUT IN ANAMBRA STATE. (PHOTO).

A 70-year-old widow, Mrs. Theresa Igboanugo, has been forcefully thrown out of her husband’s house by her step-son in Ifitedunu village, Anambra State.

The accused, Mr Uchenna Igboanugo, also allegedly dem@lished part of the house, where the widow has lived for years.

It was gathered that this happened on Saturday, April 23, 2022. 

According to a source, “Mr Uchenna has been trying to throw his step-mother out of her husband's house since the man d#ed about 10 years ago. 

The woman has only one son and five daughters. The accused succeeded last year in forcing the son to pack out of the house he shared with his widowed mother because he was very poor. After attempts to get the Umunna to fi#ht for the son, the accused used his money and influence to ensure the son does not return to the compound.

After that he channeled his energy towards making sure he fr#strates the old woman to leave the compound so that he can gain complete control. Last Saturday, he went to the compound with a group of men who carried tools and forcefully demoli$hed the widow's toilet, bathroom, kitchen and threw her belongings outside, claiming that the compound belonged to him and she should follow her son.

The widow in question was married to the deceased, Mr Igboanugo, for over 40 years. The house she's being thrown out of is the house she has lived in for the whole period, raised her children in it too. She was lawfully married as well.”

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
