 Texas man arrested with 75 pounds of marijuana in luggage while flying to London, police say A Texas man was arrested at Miami International Airport after authorities found 75 pounds of marijuana in his luggage before he could board a flight to London. Harrison O’Neill Tiernan, 23, from Austin, was charged with cannabis trafficking. He was traveling to Heathrow Airport and had checked two suitcases for his British Airways flight. Inspectors discovered 65 vacuum-sealed packages containing a green, leafy substance later confirmed to be marijuana. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped Tiernan while he attempted to board the flight, and he acknowledged that the bags were his. Authorities noted the inspections were part of broader efforts at the airport due to high outbound narcotics activity. In total, Tiernan was carrying 34.01 kilograms, or 74.98 pounds, of marijuana. RAIL RED LINE PROJECT: LASG EXTENDS TRAFFIC DIVERSION AT MURITALA MOHAMMED WAY  

In furtherance of the ongoing construction of the First Phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Red Line project, the Lagos State Government has announced the extension of the traffic diversion on Muritala Mohammed Way and Apapa Road, Oyingbo from the 27th January, 2023 to 31st March, 2023 for a duration of nine weeks. 

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde explained that the total lane closure will be sustained to allow the contractor to complete the project without any inhibition during the works. 

Oladeinde revealed that the previous alternative routes will be sustained as well, adding the traffic on Muritala Mohammed way will be diverted to Abeokuta Street to access Borno Way to Coates Street to link Muritala Mohammed Way again while motorists can alternately access their destinations from Cemetery Street. 

According to him, Traffic on Apapa Road will be accommodated with the temporary lanes constructed before the overpass and will be channeled to two lanes on Muritala Mohammed Way.  

Assuring that the site will be cordoned off for the safety of residents, he stressed that emergency vehicles will be available to tow broken-down vehicles along the axis. He also stated that signage will be placed on the access roads while the States Traffic Management Authority Personnel will manage traffic flow and minimise inconveniences to road users. 

The Commissioner reiterated the State Government’s commitment to the development of transport infrastructure within the Lagos metropolis, maintaining that it is vital for the Multi-Modal Transportation System of the Governor Babajide administration.

RAIL RED LINE PROJECT: LASG TO EXTEND TRAFFIC DIVERSION AT KAYODE, OGUNMOKUN STREETS 

In continuation of the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Redline project (Oyingbo-Agbado), the Lagos State Government will be diverting traffic from Ago-Owu to the rail crossing on Kayode and Ijaiye Streets to the rail crossing on Ogunmokun road in Mushin from 27th January to 31st March, 2023 for a duration of nine weeks. 

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde disclosed that the diversion was extended to ensure the completion of the construction of the Mushin Flyover.  

Oladeinde further explained that Motorists will be diverted to Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway via Jibowu to enable them to connect Ogunmokun Street to continue their journeys while traffic from Ogunmokun will be diverted to Lagos-Abeokuta Way, Ilupeju Bypass to link Ikorodu Road and access their desired destinations. 

He also revealed that signage will be mounted and the State Traffic Management Personnel will be deployed to guide movement during the course of the work. 

Reiterating the continuous commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to the development of transport infrastructure in Lagos, the Transport Commissioner maintained that a Multi-Modal Transportation System will enhance the economy of the State.
