 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. AIG  ALABI  RESUMES AT ZONE  2  ONIKAN LAGOS 

 new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Nigeria Police, Zone 2 Command today Friday 17th February 2023 assumed office at the Zonal HQ, Onikan, Lagos. He is AIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi. The professional cop will be leading the Zone which comprises Lagos and Ogun States.

Addressing newsmen briefly as he arrived, AIG Abiodun Alabi said: ‘I have worked here before for 2 years when I was CSP. So I am not a new person here. What I achieved in the last 1 year as Lagos CP, we didn’t have any major crisis though we had small challenges which were not insurmountable.’

‘I am going to replicate the same here. Lagos State and Ogun state under my command will have a new lease of life.

On the skirmish occasioned in some parts of Lagos, he told Journalists ‘I don’t see it as special. Occasionally we have to experience such situation where people want to ventilate their anger as far as we are able to manage it very well which we are doing. We will sustain and strengthen it so that we can have security.’

We have deployed effectively to all financial institutions not only banks to ensure that hoodlums don’t take advantage of what is going on to attack banks. It is part of our statutory duty’, he concluded.

AIG Alabi was posted and redeployed to head Zone 2 command after the promotion and redeployment of the immediate past AIG Zone 2, DIG Bode Adeyinka Adeleke now, Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Present at the taking-over ceremony was the Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, and senior management team of Zone 2 Command.
