 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT SIGNS MOU WITH MICROSOFT ON DIGITAL SKILLS TRAINING.


The MOU signing ceremony was performed on the sidelines of the official launch of the Solution Innovation District (SID) Of Anambra State Government by the Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR.


SID is set up to build, activate and scale innovation in Anambra State, for technology startups, digital skills training, creation of co-working space, business incubation, raising Anambra digital tribe, innovation support, among others.


The initiative is targeted at training 10,000 youths annually on relevant ICT skills. And this particular Launch will see to the training of 20,000 youths.


Speaking on "Anambra Digital Tribe: Activating A New Economy through the Solution Agenda", Governor Soludo said that his administration is determined to transform the state from informal economy to formal economy through skills acquisition.


He highlighted plans on ground to ensure the people have cheap and available high speed internet, to ensure that skills will be exportable.


Also Speaking, the Commissioner for Youth Development Anambra State, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba recalled that the "One Youth, Two Skills" initiative was launched by the Governor in October and noted that the world is fast going digital and expressed gladness that Anambra is not left behind.


Agha Mba called on residents of the state to take advantage of the opportunity as the goal is to redefine youth development beyond immediate consumption with job creation as the destination.


The Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation, Ms. Chinwe Okoli said that the programme is to officially begin the journey on innovation, to unleash the creativity and ingenuity of ndị Anambra, to enthrone a liveable and prosperous smart megacity in line with the Governor's vision.


Ms. Okoli stressed that for innovation to thrive, there is need to build a community of stakeholders in Information Communication Technology, saying that the initiative is being introduced because Anambra is densely populated by youths, explaining that the move is to engage them on opportunities, calling on all to come on board.


A representative of the Country Manager, Microsoft, Nigeria and Ghana, Olatomiwa Williams and the Chief Executive Officer, Wootlab Foundation, Chioma Okoro, explained that the event is the right move to actualize skills acquisition, saying that there is high level of unemployment of Nigerian youths, calling for a cursory look at the education system to reflect skills acquisition on the curriculum. 


They noted that they were poised to partner Anambra State government because such partnership has the potential to change lives, describing it as a step in the right direction.


Highpoint was panel session on Anambra Digital Tribe: Leveraging the Opportunities in the Digital Space.


In attendance were Wife of the Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, members of the State Executive Council, Traditional Rulers, President General of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo, and cross sections of Ndi Anambra especially the youths.
