 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. President-Elect Tinubu Returns To Nigeria Today After 33 Days Abroad


Nigeria's 'President-elect', Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria today after 33 days abroad, a tweet by his Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga said on Monday.


The President-elect had reportedly been on vacation in France.


According to reports, Tinubu whose plane is billed to land at the presidential wing of the Abuja Airport will be escorted from the airport by a carnival-like motorcade to the Defence House.


The president-elect had jetted out of Nigeria to France on March 21, a trip his campaign council said was meant for him to take a rest and plan ahead of his inauguration on May 29.


A statement by the APC presidential campaign council had in March claimed that Tinubu travelled to France to rest and plan his transition programme after a very exhaustive campaign and election season.


“The president-elect had left the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.According to the statement, the president-elect decided to take a break after the hectic campaign and election season to rest in Paris and London, preparatory to going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Lesser Hajj) and the Ramadan Fasting,” the statement said.
