 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. CHANGE OF COMMAND IN HEADQUARTERS 3 ARMOURED DIVISION AND STF OPERATION SAFE HAVEN


The handing and taking over ceremony between the outgone and incoming General Officer Commanding 3 Armoured Division (GOC) and Force Commander (FC) Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) was concluded today Saturday 8 July 2023 at the Maxwell Khobe Military Cantonment and the Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN Headquarters in Jos. In his remarks, Maj Gen AB Ibrahim lauded the commitment and effort of officers and men during the period he commanded the Division and STF and urged the incoming GOC/FC OPSH to think in and out of the box. In his response, Maj Gen AE Abubakar appreciated the commitment and accomplishments of the outgone commander in his effort to bringing lasting peace to Plateau State. He said he was aware of the enormous challenges ahead and assured that he was fully prepared and ready to hit the ground running as the strategic guidance recieved was clear and unambiguous on the mission at hand. He promised to bring all his diverse experiences to bear while serving with fairness and utmost justice. He reiterated the need for continued synergy with various stakeholders, strengthening traditional and local institutions as well as continuous interphase with the Government to ensure the safety of lives and property. 

Maj Gen AE Abubakar further maintained that youth engagement would be key to achieving lasting peace while technology would also be employed to cover gaps. He charged that his command would be bold, swift and decisive while upholding the highest standards of professionalism. The incoming GOC/FC took time to thank the Chief of Army Staff Major General TA Lagbaja for finding him worthy of the command and promised to work tirelessly in achieving the end state of the operation. The out gone Commander Maj Gen AB Ibrahim takes over as Chief of Policy and Plans at the Army Headquarters, Abuja while Maj General AE Abubakar was posted from Headquarters 7 Division OPHK Maiduguri where he was a Sector Commander.
