 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 56-YEAR OLD MAN, ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY DEFILING 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER.

One Mr Ọkpara, a 56 year old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling 11 year old daughter in Anambra.

The 56 year old suspect who is resident in Fegge Onitsha is a native of Adazi-Enu in Anaocha local government area of the state.

This was made reported when a good Samaritan noticed that the young girl is limping, upon interrogation she revealed that the father usually do have carnal knowledge of her every night and threatened to kill her if she ever tells anyone hence the reason why she hasn't raised alarm. 

According to the victim, the suspect who is her father started taking advantage of her after her mother's death in 2020 and became overly protective of her by not allowing other family members, friends and relatives to come close. 

Although Mr Ọkpara denied the allegation stating in his defense that his daughter's inability to work properly is because she fell from the refrigerator, but test results from the hospital where the victim was taken to says otherwise.

Reacting to the news, the women and social welfare Commissioner, Obinabo who deployed her staff to the scene of the incident promised to get to the bottom of the case assuring that justice must prevail.

Meanwhile the suspect will be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka on Wednesday
