 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. BADAGRY HOSTS FOURTH EDITION OF DOOR OF RETURN


The ancient city of Badagry is hosting some Diasporans, led by Dr. Julius Marcus Garvey Jr. and others in celebration of the fourth edition of The Diaspora Door of Return, from the 19th-21st October, 2023.

The celebration is organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) under the leadership of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erunwa and supported by the Lagos State Government.

The celebration was designed to promote a unique opportunity for the Diasporans to experience a very symbolic and emotional bond with their ancestral land, and to witness the historical city where their ancestors were taken away as slaves through the Point of No Return, which has since been renamed "Door of Return".

As part of the activities celebrating the event, was the naming ceremony of the Diasporans and bestowing of a Chieftaincy title on Dr. Garvey Jr. by the Akran of Badagry during their visit to his palace on Friday. They were accompanied on this visit by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erunwa, Chairman of NIDCOM, Mr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, SSA to the Mr. Governor on Diaspora Matters and Dr. Olaide Mesewaku, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism among others
