NIGERIAN NAVY TO ESTABLISH BASE AT SHAGUNU, NIGER STATE
The Nigerian Navy is to establish a Naval Base at Shagunu, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Commanding Officer, Naval Outpost Shagunu, Navy Captain Gabriel Ogbodo gave the indication during a visit to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago at the Government House, Minna.
He said the visit was to inform the Governor of the ongoing survey for the proposed Naval base at Shagunu.
Navy Captain Ogbodo said to ensure a smooth take off and cordial relationship, the Navy has already established contact with the Emirate and the host community.
He expressed optimism that when established the presence of the Base would tackle the issue of smuggling of goods and light weapons for criminal activities being carried out by unscrupulous element on the Shagunu waters.
The Niger State Governor Umar Bago gave an assurance that the State would continue to work closely with security agents to rid the State of crimes and criminal elements.
He appreciated the Nigerian Navy for the proposed Naval Base and requested for the recruitment of members of the host community into the Navy.
Shagunu is a beach resort links up with Baro Port in Niger State and also connect the State to the Niger Delta Region through the waterways.
