 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. Sierra Leone Police Arrest Nigerian Man Declared Wanted For Allegedly Killing Girlfriend  

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the arrest of one Benjamin Nnanyereugo for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, by the Sierra Leonean police force.

Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday morning, Hundeyin said the Nigerian police have confirmed his arrest.

"He was arrested by the Sierra Leone Police Force, and we are working on extradition of him to Nigeria," he said.

Details of his arrest are still sketchy at the time of filling this report.

Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command had declared Nnanyereugo wanted for the death of his girlfriend.

The police, in a statement, said Nnanyereugo was suspected to have murdered the 21-year-old lady on July 13, 2023, in his home at Oral Estate in the Ajah area of the state.

The statement read in part, "Following the exhaustion of all available options to bring him in, he is declared wanted.

The suspect is 26, approximately 5'95'9 ft tall, and hails from Abia State. He is dark in complexion and speaks English, Igbo, and pidgin English fluently.
