 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆, 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝗡𝗻𝗲𝗯𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝟲𝟭


Anayo Nnebe (born in 1963) popularly known as Ichele Awka, served as the Speaker of the Anambra State Assembly from 2007 to 2011.


He is from Umuokpu Village, Awka in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.


In 2015, he was elected to represent Awka North and South Federal Constituency under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


In April 2018, Nnebe announced his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance and contested again to represent Awka North and South Federal Constituency but lost to PDP. 


Before his death, he was an appointee of the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Legislative Matters.
