 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  AFCON 2023: Super Eagles deserved victory over Angola – Peseiro


Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has praised his players for another gritty display following the team’s 1-0 win over Angola in their quarter-final tie at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ademola Lookman fired home the winning goal for the Super Eagles five minutes before the break.

The Super Eagles wasted a number of chances in the game but were able to protect their lead.

Peseiro eulogised his players for working hard to achieve victory in the game.

“We played a good game, Angola showed they deserved to be here. We created two chances in the first half and hit the post in the first half.

“I’m very happy with my players. We scored once goal and could have had one or two more.

“My team did well against a good team. We controlled the game and dominated our opponent.

“In the first half, we played well, closed down the spaces and didn’t give them room to operate.

“After the break, Angola came out more and we had chances on the counter attack which we didn’t utilise.

“I’m happy for my players, we deserved to win the game. I want to congratulate them on this victory.”
