  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms.  Court convicts doctor Anu Adepoju over client’s d£ath 


The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has convicted a medical doctor, Anu Adepoju, over a failed plastic surgery that resulted in the d£ath of one Nneka Onwuzuligbo in 2020. 


Anu, who’s the founder of MedContour Services LTD, was convicted on Friday, May 17, on a five-count charge bordering on a refusal to honour an invitation for an investigation into post-body surgery complications and failure to produce investigation documents.


Recall that shortly after the news of Onwuzuligbo demise went viral, Anu was arrested and later charged to court alongside her company by the Federal Competition and Consumers Protection Commission (FCCPC) in 2020. 


The prosecuting counsel for the FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera,  announced the conviction on X. 


Irukere had earlier disclosed that the offence carries either a prison term, a fine, or both.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
