 BENUE BOOSTS CHILD PROTECTION WITH GRADUATION OF 60 UNICEF-BACKED SOCIAL WORKERS  Benue State has taken a major step toward strengthening child protection and social welfare services with the graduation of 60 Auxiliary Social Workers (ASWs) trained to serve vulnerable children and families at the grassroots. The graduation ceremony, held on Wednesday, marked the successful completion of a programme jointly supported by the Benue State Government, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development (BICD).  Police arrest notorious criminal terrorizing Yobe residents


A 40-year-old notorious criminal has been arrested by operatives of the Yobe State Police Command.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday which also indicated that, the suspect, Haruna Mohammed, specialised in demanding money and other valuables from victims through menacing phone calls, threatening death or harm.

“Haruna Mohammed, a 40-year-old resident of Lantewa village, Tarmuwa LGA, has been apprehended by the State Intelligent Department (SID).

“The Command had been tracking Mohammed for his involvement in terrorizing towns, villages and neighbouring states.

“A victim from Siminti village, Lantewa, Tarmuwa LGA, reported that Mohammed demanded N3,000,000.00 or threatened to kill him and his family,” the statement said.

The statement further disclosed that the suspect confessed to the crime and implicated other syndicate members, who are currently being trailed by the Police.

“The Commissioner of Police warned that anyone with a criminal tendency will face stiff resistance,” the statement added.
