Sudan war: Hundreds of civilians displaced in latest South Kordofan's violence A total of 570 civilians were displaced from Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan, over a three-day period due to deteriorating security conditions, the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) said. The organisation said in a statement that its tracking teams recorded the displacement of 570 people from Kadugli between 8 and 10 January, as insecurity escalated in the city. The displaced families headed toward areas in White Nile State, southern Sudan. The situation in Kadugli remains “tense and volatile,” the agency said, adding that its teams are continuing to closely monitor developments on the ground.  Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Fire in Escalating Conflict

The Israeli military launched airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, citing a need for "preemptive" action.

Hezbollah responded with its own strikes, claiming to have launched 320 rockets and drones towards Israel.

The exchange of fire comes after months of tensions between the two sides, with the killing of a top Hezbollah commander last month sparking the latest round of violence.

The Israeli military said it was prepared for retaliatory attacks from Hezbollah or Iran, and has declared a "special situation on the home front" across the country.

The US has been engaged in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation, with President Joe Biden closely monitoring events.

The conflict has raised concerns of a regional conflagration, with flights temporarily suspended at Tel Aviv airport and civilians advised to limit gatherings and avoid certain areas.

Despite the escalation, negotiations towards a ceasefire and hostage deal in Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza are ongoing.
