  “₦1,000 for just 8 tomatoes” — Man fumes over rising food prices, says Nigerians are suffering under hardship A Nigerian man has gone viral after lamenting the rising cost of food, revealing that he bought just eight tomatoes for ₦1,000 at a market in Yaba. In a video shared online, he questioned how families, especially large households, are expected to survive amid rising food prices, stressing that basic ingredients like tomatoes, pepper and onions have become increasingly difficult for many to afford. The visibly angry man also criticised the state of the country, expressing frustration over hardship, insecurity and the rising cost of living in Nigeria. Watch video below.

 WHO African: Dr Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile Elected New Regional Director 


Dr Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile of Tanzania has been nominated as the next Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region. He takes over from Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, who has served two five-year terms at the helm.


African Member States voted to nominate Dr. Ndugulile during the seventy-fourth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, held in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. 


Other candidates were Dr Boureima Hama Sambo of Niger, Dr Ibrahima Socé Fall of Senegal and Dr Richard Mihigo of Rwanda.


Dr Ndugulile's nomination will be submitted for appointment by the 156th session of the WHO Executive Board, which wilp place in February 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland. The newly appointed Regional Director will take office thereafter for a five-year term renewal once.
