 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  ENHANCING FOOD SECURITY IN NIGERIA: LAGOS NSCDC HARPS ON ROLES OF GOVERNMENT, STAKEHOLDERS AND AGRO RANGERS.


Keshinro presents award of excellence to the Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture, Lagos State, Mrs Ruth Abisola Olusanya at the third edition of the Lagos NSCDC Bi - Monthly Public Relations Clinic.


The third ( 3rd ) edition of the Lagos NSCDC Bi - Monthly Public Relations Clinic held, today, Wednesday, 9th October, 2024 at the State Command Headquarters, Alahusa, Ikeja, Lagos State.


The event, which often gathers Government Functionaries, Stakeholders, and Participants from all the formations of the State Command, this time around focused, on the theme; "Enhancing Food Security in Nigeria, the Roles of Government, Stakeholders and Law Enforcement Agencies, Contributions of Agro Rangers Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ) in Lagos State."


The Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture, Mrs Ruth Abisola Olusanya was ably, represented, today, by Mr Oyebola Akinola, Deputy Director / Technical Adviser to the Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture, Lagos State. The Commissioner's representative while addressing the gathering  earlier today, emphasized, the need for farmers, associations, security agencies, experts within and outside the sector to come together to discuss more globally, effective methods capable of enhancing food security in the nation. He opined that this will further reduce the scourge of food insecurity and totally disallow it's spread in our society. He further touched, on the lots of achievements the Ministry has got under the Commissioner's administration and the roles the Agro Rangers of the Corps have also been playing since they have been working together in the state.


The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro was ably represented, by his Second - in - Command,  Deputy Commandant of Corps Eunice Morenike Agboola. She delivered, the keynote address of the State Commandant and enumerated the roles of the Agro Rangers Unit of the Command, in enhancing food security in Lagos communities. She highlighted, various arrests and crisis de - escalating mediations and operations that the unit has carried out across various places such as; abattoirs, farm lands and other identified communities of uttermost importance in the state.


The Guest Lecturer, Mr Abiodun Ramon Oseni, an American Veteran Army and the Lead Discussant, Mr Lewis Degbola, Administrative Director, Lagos State Security Trust Fund delivered, a fantastic lecture on the theme aforementioned, above. The lecturer further charged, the Agro Rangers to be more relevant in the state in a bid to gain the needed support as their efforts to make the state much safer can not be overemphasized.


The Clinic also had a more elaborate discussion during the panel session, which had a host of panelists from the Government; Secretary to the Local Government ( SLG ), Ojokoro LCDA, Comrade Omisore Kola, Stakeholders; Miyetti Allah, Harmony, and Law Enforcement Agencies especially, the Agro Rangers Unit of the command. The panel session was moderated, by Superintendent of Corps, Nnamdi Odina, who gave room for very intellectual interactive session in a bid to cross fertilize ideas and provide solutions to the common problem of hike in prices of food commodities and other underlying economic sabotages or challenges faced, by the people.


The highpoint of the event is also the commendation and the presentation of award of excellence to the Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture, Mrs Ruth Abisola Olusanya by the Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro for her excellence in ensuring food security in Lagos State under the leadership of Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo - Olu. The award was presented, to her by the representative of the State Commandant and was also received, by the representative of the Honourable Commissioner.


Other awardees at the event include the Lagos State Commandant, Guest Lecturer, Lead Discussant, SLG, Panelists, Divisional Officers, distinguished personalities, most punctual participants ( males and females ) and technical staff for his dedication to duty at all times.
