 Tragedy Averted as 120-Year-Old Ancestral Tree Falls at Obosi Market By Chiedu Okoye A major tragedy was averted at Eke Obosi Market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after a 120-year-old ancestral tree collapsed, destroying shops and goods but leaving traders and visitors unharmed. The massive tree, estimated to be about 150 feet tall, fell within the market premises, damaging at least 12 shops and valuable merchandise. Residents and traders described the incident as miraculous, noting that no lives were lost despite the extent of the destruction. The fallen tree held significant cultural importance as a sacred symbol of Eke Obosi Market, which is regarded as a stronghold of the traditions and cultural heritage of the Obosi people.  ‘Go back to your state’ | ‘I’ll give you job abroad’ — reactions as nurse claims Lagos smells

 

An X user simply identified as Nurse Ugbede has sparked mixed reactions on the microblogging platform after allegedly calling Lagos and its residents “smelly”.


“This Lagos is a smelly city. People smell, the streets smell, and the gutters smells, the water smells, everything is smelly. I’m tired,” the tweet allegedly reads.


The post generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some users defended her right to express her opinion, others criticised her for being “disrespectful to the city and its residents”.


One user identified as Bayo slammed Ugbede over her comments, calling them “public ridicule”.


The user also drew the attention of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos governor, to the remark.


“Dear Lagos government, you’re leaving the lives and economy of Lagos in the hands of people that hate their employers,” the user wrote.


“If @jidesanwoolu and @mudashiru_obasa will not start demanding respect from people that are taking jobs away from aboriginals, we will also not stop adding external LEGAL pressure until we get the desired respect.”

Ugbede, who is believed to be working at the general hospital in Gbagada, also alleged that she has been facing “attacks” since Sunday.

However, another X user @Elkrosmediahub offered Ugbede a job abroad if she lost her current one due to the backlash.
