Water Crisis Deepens in Nasarawa Eggon as Residents Resort to Unsafe Sources Residents of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area in Nasarawa State are grappling with severe water scarcity, resorting to stagnant ponds and muddy pools for their daily needs due to the collapse of public water infrastructure. Communities now rely on contaminated water for drinking, cooking, and bathing, raising serious health concerns. Locals described the water as foul-smelling and visibly dirty, but said they have no alternatives. “We’ve not had tap water in over two months,” said Adefu Ruth, a resident of Angwan Kuje. “We’re forced to use this dirty water.” Despite the presence of elected officials and the Commissioner for Water Resources—an indigene of the area—residents say there has been no visible intervention.  ‘Go back to your state’ | ‘I’ll give you job abroad’ — reactions as nurse claims Lagos smells

 

An X user simply identified as Nurse Ugbede has sparked mixed reactions on the microblogging platform after allegedly calling Lagos and its residents “smelly”.


“This Lagos is a smelly city. People smell, the streets smell, and the gutters smells, the water smells, everything is smelly. I’m tired,” the tweet allegedly reads.


The post generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some users defended her right to express her opinion, others criticised her for being “disrespectful to the city and its residents”.


One user identified as Bayo slammed Ugbede over her comments, calling them “public ridicule”.


The user also drew the attention of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos governor, to the remark.


“Dear Lagos government, you’re leaving the lives and economy of Lagos in the hands of people that hate their employers,” the user wrote.


“If @jidesanwoolu and @mudashiru_obasa will not start demanding respect from people that are taking jobs away from aboriginals, we will also not stop adding external LEGAL pressure until we get the desired respect.”

Ugbede, who is believed to be working at the general hospital in Gbagada, also alleged that she has been facing “attacks” since Sunday.

However, another X user @Elkrosmediahub offered Ugbede a job abroad if she lost her current one due to the backlash.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha.
