  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms.  Nigeria Battle Tunisia, South Africa To Face Ghana In Women’s AFCON


The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been drawn against Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in Group B of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).


Nigeria, record holders of the competition, will be aiming to extend their impeccable form in the tournament.


The draws for the 2025 edition of the women’s tournament were held on Friday.


“We have been drawn in Group B alongside Algeria, Tunisia, and Botswana for the Morocco 2024 CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations,” the Super Falcons wrote on their X handle on Friday.


“This promises to be an exciting challenge for us as we aim to reclaim our continental glory.”


Nigeria defeated Algeria 6-1 on aggregate in a double-header friendly game played in the West African nation.


They finished a disappointing fourth in the last edition of the competition but have won the WAFCON nine times.


The Super Falcons will take on France on November 30th in a friendly game.


In Group A, Morocco, the host nation will take on Zambia, Senegal, and DRC Congo while defending champions South Africa were pitted against Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.


The tournament will begin on July 2025.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
