 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Kwara Governor Mourns Chief of Staff, AbdulKadir Mahe


AbdulKadir Mahe, the Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, December 28, 2024.  


The announcement was made by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye. Mahe’s remains were buried the same day at his residence on Moro Street, Adewole Estate, Ilorin.  


Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed deep sorrow over Mahe’s death, describing him as “a perfect gentleman, community leader, urbane public servant, and statesman.”  


In his statement, the governor extended condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the deceased’s family, government officials, and cabinet members.  


“We pray that Allaah accepts his return, eases his accounts, admits him to al-Jannah Firdaus, and strengthens his family in this difficult time,” the governor added.
