 Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. In October, Niger renamed several historic sites in its capital Niamey which previously bore references to old colonial master France.  Nollywood Actress and Former Beauty Queen Princess Chineke Enlists in U.S. Army


Princess Chineke, a well-known Nollywood actress and former beauty queen, has made a surprising career shift by joining the U.S. Army. Once a contestant in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant, Princess has traded her crown for a soldier's uniform, becoming the first Nollywood actress to enlist in the U.S. Army.


Known for her roles in popular Nigerian TV series and films such as Battleground, Last Flight to Abuja, Super Story, and Papa Ajasco, Princess also modeled for TV commercials, billboards, and runways before transitioning to acting.


Her decision to join the military has stunned many of her fans, who remember her for her captivating performances on screen. However, Princess, who is also a former Miss UNIBEN, has expressed her deep passion for serving her adopted country.


“I love the prestige that comes with the American military,” she said. “As a citizen of this great country that has done so much for me, I feel it’s my turn to give back. God bless America.”
