 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  NDLEA Anambra State Command Visits Anambra East Mayor

The Chairman, Anambra East LGA, Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, has emphasized the need to eradicate hard drug abuse in the region during a courtesy visit from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Anambra State Command. 


He urged the NDLEA team to regularly visit the area to combat drug abuse and suggested organizing seminars to educate residents about the dangers of hard drugs.


The Anambra State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Daniel Ogbomna, highlighted the agency's efforts to combat drug abuse in collaboration with local governments. He noted that they are working tirelessly to reduce drug trafficking and abuse, and have established drug-free clubs in schools, organized quiz competitions, and collaborated with community leaders and parents to achieve their goals.


Ogbomna also urged the mayor to support efforts to make Anambra East a drug-free local government area.
