 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC).  Police Arrest Officer for Shooting Former Bauchi LG Chairman


The Nigeria Police Force Zone 12 Command has confirmed the arrest of a police officer accused of shooting and injuring Alhaji Danlami Alhassan, a former Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area in Bauchi State.


Zone 12 Police Public Relations Officer, Thomas Goni, stated that the officer involved has been identified and is in custody, assuring the public of a thorough and impartial investigation.


“The officer will face disciplinary action according to Force guidelines. We are addressing this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” Goni said, adding that the incident has raised community concerns and prompted a review of police training and protocols to prevent future occurrences.


Recounting the incident, Alhassan explained that it happened on Sunday at about 9:30 p.m. near the Wunti Market in Bauchi. The officer’s identity was uncovered after a bag containing his police ID card, teargas canisters, and other equipment fell from his motorcycle.


Alhassan, who sustained injuries, was treated at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital and later discharged. He said he was on his way to purchase suya (roasted meat) when the shooting occurred.
