 Marwa seeks more NASS support, defends N67.5B 2025 NDLEA budget . Senate, House committees commend Agency’s performance, assure of adequate support Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) has expressed appreciation to the National Assembly especially the Senate and House Committees on Narcotic Drugs for their commitment to the nation’s fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking while he appealed for their continued support to enhance the capacity and capability of the Agency to deliver on its mandate. Marwa made the appeal on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th January when he led his management team to defend the 2025 budget proposal of the Agency before the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs and Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics respectively.  Police Arrest Officer for Shooting Former Bauchi LG Chairman


The Nigeria Police Force Zone 12 Command has confirmed the arrest of a police officer accused of shooting and injuring Alhaji Danlami Alhassan, a former Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area in Bauchi State.


Zone 12 Police Public Relations Officer, Thomas Goni, stated that the officer involved has been identified and is in custody, assuring the public of a thorough and impartial investigation.


“The officer will face disciplinary action according to Force guidelines. We are addressing this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” Goni said, adding that the incident has raised community concerns and prompted a review of police training and protocols to prevent future occurrences.


Recounting the incident, Alhassan explained that it happened on Sunday at about 9:30 p.m. near the Wunti Market in Bauchi. The officer’s identity was uncovered after a bag containing his police ID card, teargas canisters, and other equipment fell from his motorcycle.


Alhassan, who sustained injuries, was treated at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital and later discharged. He said he was on his way to purchase suya (roasted meat) when the shooting occurred.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
