ABIA COMMUNITY DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN DEATH OF INDIGENOUS MOTORCYCLIST. (PHOTO).

The Obuoro Ibere community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State has denied any involvement in the death of one of its indigenes, Mr. Okezie Onyema Onyendu, a commercial motorcyclist who was attacked by unknown assailants in Amawom village.

Onyendu was ambushed around 1 am on March 7, and his attackers made off with his motorcycle, mobile phone, and daily earnings. He later succumbed to his injuries on March 10 at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

The Traditional Prime Minister of Obuoro, Chief Goddey Nduche, dismissed allegations made by Onyendu's widow, Mrs. Ogechi Okezie, that the community was involved in her husband's death. Nduche described the allegations as baseless and emphasized that it is an abomination for the community to shed the blood of one of its own sons.

Nduche explained that Onyendu had unresolved issues with the community, including his failure to perform the traditional second burial rites of his late father and a dispute with his half-brothers over land allocation.

The community leader urged security agencies to investigate the killing and probe criminal activities in Amawom, which has become notorious for violent attacks. The community's President General, Chief Ariondu Enyinnaya, and Onyendu's half-sister, Ogechi Ogbonna, also appealed for justice for the slain motorcyclist.

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that the case is under investigation.
