Dubai Police Distributes Over 119,000 Iftar Meals in First Ten Days of Ramadan
In a remarkable effort to enhance road safety during the holy month, Dubai Police has distributed 119,850 Iftar meals to motorists in the first ten days of Ramadan.
The initiative, part of the annual “Ramadan Without Accidents” campaign, aims to reduce traffic incidents during the pre-Iftar rush by encouraging drivers to break their fast safely without feeling pressured to speed.
A Collaborative Effort for Safer Roads
Led by the General Department of Traffic, the initiative was carried out in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Civil Defence, the UAE Red Crescent, Dubai Charity Association, Dubai Digital Authority, Emirates Today newspaper, Aster Group, Med7 Pharmacy, and Life Pharmacy. A dedicated team of 230 volunteers worked tirelessly to distribute the meals at key intersections across the emirate, ensuring drivers had access to food and water before Maghrib prayer.
High-Risk Time on the Roads
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, highlighted that the moments before Iftar are among the most dangerous on the roads. Many drivers, eager to reach their destinations before sunset, tend to speed, jump red lights, or make reckless overtakes, significantly increasing the risk of accidents that can result in serious injuries or fatalities.
“The combination of hunger, fatigue, and stress during fasting affects drivers’ focus and reaction times, making them more prone to mistakes,” he explained. “Additionally, the heavy congestion leading up to Iftar prompts some motorists to engage in illegal manoeuvres, such as driving on the shoulder of the road or disregarding lane discipline, causing traffic bottlenecks and chain collisions.”
A Call for Patience and Responsibility
Major General Al Mazrouei urged all drivers to remain patient, plan their journeys in advance, and adhere to traffic rules to mitigate these risks. He emphasised that “arriving late but safe is always better than not arriving at all.”
The campaign serves as a powerful reminder that small acts of caution—like leaving early, maintaining speed limits, and respecting other road users—can significantly save lives.
Community Spirit at Its Best
Major General Al Mazroui expressed gratitude to the volunteers and participating entities and praised their efforts in fostering a culture of safety, compassion, and social responsibility.
“This initiative truly reflects the humanitarian values deeply rooted in the UAE’s society. Every volunteer and organisation involved played a crucial role in making our roads safer during Ramadan,” he said.

As part of the ongoing “Ramadan Without Accidents” campaign, Dubai Police continues to raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving during Iftar hours, urging the public to exercise caution and prioritise safety over haste.
