 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms. FIRE ENGULFS PARTS OF ONITSHA MAIN MARKET IN ANAMBRA STATE. (PHOTO).

A devastating fire outbreak has ravaged parts of the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State, Nigeria. The blaze, which began at approximately 6:20 am on Friday, quickly spread to adjacent buildings, causing widespread damage.


Eyewitnesses report that residents, passersby, and firefighters are working tirelessly to salvage properties and goods from the affected buildings. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.


Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and urged the public to remain calm. "Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha," Chiketa stated.


Firefighters responded promptly to the distress call, which came in at 6:20 am. Chiketa assured the public that the situation is under control and that firefighters are working to quench the flames.
