 Germany and Austria to tap oil reserves after 400 million barrels requested  Germany and Austria announced they are releasing portions of their oil reserves in response to an International Energy Agency request for member nations to collectively release 400 million barrels to help ease rising energy prices linked to the Iran conflict. Japan also said it will begin releasing part of its reserves starting Monday. The move marks one of the largest coordinated releases of emergency oil stocks in history. The previous record came in 2022, when IEA members released 182.7 million barrels following the energy disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Member countries currently hold over 1.2 billion barrels of public emergency oil stocks, along with an additional 600 million barrels of industry stocks maintained under government requirements. ATBU Bauchi Dismisses Lecturer Over Sexual Harassment


The Governing Council of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has dismissed one Dr Usman Aliyu from the service of the institution.


Zailani Bappa, Director, Information and Public Relations of the institution, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Bauchi on Thursday. 


According to him, the approval of the dismissal of the lecturer was made during the 96th regular meeting of the institution held on April 11, 2025, after he was found guilty of having sexually harassed a married female post-graduate student of the institution.


He said that the student is from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology of the institution.


“Yes, it’s true, and that was because the lecturer was confirmed guilty of the offense by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee of the institution.


“The dismissal was in accordance with the chapter 3, item f, i, (o) of the Senior Staff Conditions of Service of the University.


“The Council has subsequently approved his dismissal from the service of the University with immediate effect.


“In view of this, he has been directed to hand over all the property of the university in his possession to his Head of Department and identification card to the Chief Security Officer of the University”, Mr Bappa said. (NAN)
