THEME: GOD PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE FOR US

We all like sheep have gone astray; and have contracted punishments due to our disobedience; but God did not abandon us; he sent his only begotten Son to come and redeem us. He went through pain and death for us, that we may have life in abundance.

Prophet Isaiah in the first reading today, draws our attention to what Jesus did for us when he said, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Therefore, Jesus became a lamb led to be slaughtered because of our iniquities. He took our judgements and punishments upon himself; and was bruised for our iniquities.

Today, we remember how Jesus through his passion and death corrected our disobedience. “Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and being made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him.” Hence, our sufferings should lead us to God; they should teach us humility and obedience to God. And our sufferings are not wasted if they lead us to be obedient children of God.

Today, we are special people of God whose debts have been paid; today we celebrate the fact that Jesus has paid the ultimate price for our transgressions. When Jesus hanged on the Cross, he said, “I am thirsty,” a bowl was there, full of cheap wine; so a sponge was soaked in the wine, put on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted up to his lips; Jesus drank the wine and said, “It is finished!”

Therefore, every required price that has to be made for the salvation of humanity; and for our freedom from sin and evil, has been completed. Jesus before his last breath on the cross, paid all the price for us. And so, we are totally free indeed. No other sacrifice is required for our freedom or salvation.

God bless you!

Happy Good Friday to you!!
