Abia Government Berates NDC Gubernatorial Candidate Ogah Over Claims of Supporting Atiku The Abia State Government has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) gubernatorial candidate in the state, Etugo Ogah, that it is backing Atiku Abubakar and Chibuike Amaechi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 presidential election. Ogah made the claim while addressing members of his party recently. He alleged that the Abia State Government is neither supporting President Bola Tinubu nor Peter Obi, but is instead supporting Atiku Abubakar and Amaechi. “The present government of Abia, they are not supporting Tinubu or Peter Obi, they are supporting Atiku and Amaechi and I want to reveal it to you people,” Ogah was quoted as saying. Reacting, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, described Ogah as a content creator seeking relevance through unfounded statements against the governor.  Borno Governor Alleges Politicians, Military Personnel Act as Boko Haram Informants, Vows Ruthless Crackdown

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has made a startling claim that some Nigerian politicians and members of the armed forces are serving as informants and collaborators for Boko Haram insurgents. Speaking on Wednesday, Zulum vowed to strengthen the state’s intelligence network and deal “ruthlessly” with those undermining security efforts.

“We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian armed forces, within the politicians, and within the communities,” Zulum declared. “What we shall do is to strengthen our intelligence and deal with them ruthlessly. Let’s remove contractocracy. In six months, we can put an end to this madness. We need not politicize insecurity.”

Addressing the issue of surrendered insurgents, Zulum noted that while not all have fully reformed, over 99% are contributing positively and no longer participating in terrorism. “I cannot completely say that 100% of those who have surrendered are doing the right thing, but I assure you that over 99% are doing well,” he said, acknowledging that among the over 500,000 repentant fighters, a small number may return to insurgency.

Zulum emphasized the need for a dual approach to tackling insurgency, combining kinetic (military) and non-kinetic (social, political, and economic) strategies. “Insurgency will never be ended by kinetic measures alone,” he stated. “Our ongoing non-kinetic measures have yielded positive results with the support of the Nigerian military.”

The governor criticized the military’s lack of adequate equipment, alleging that insurgents possess a technological advantage. “The army doesn’t have the necessary equipment on ground to fight the insurgency,” he said. Despite this, he commended the Nigerian armed forces for their support in peace-building efforts.

Zulum urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize ground-level intelligence and professional military advice, warning against politicizing insecurity. “The President needs to listen to those who can differentiate their left from their right,” he said. “The forest guard shall be provided immediately, and the President should listen to the army.”
