 France records first Ebola case in doctor returning from DR Congo France confirmed its first imported Ebola case after a humanitarian doctor returned from a mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Health Ministry said Wednesday, Anadolu Agency reported. The patient, who had returned from an area where the virus is circulating in Congo, was immediately admitted to a specialised healthcare facility and is in stable condition, the ministry said in a statement. “All precautionary measures, including the patient's isolation, were taken upon his arrival in the country,” it added, saying the transfer to hospital was carried out under secure conditions to prevent any risk of contamination. French health authorities said a full epidemiological investigation is underway to identify people who may have been in contact with the patient. MAN SENTENCED TO 50 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE AND ROBBERY IN NORTHEM. (PHOTO).


 Man sentenced to 50 years imprisonment for rape and robbery in Northem


The Thabazimbi regional court has on Tuesday 20 May 2025, sentenced Phenyo Moilwa (36) to an effective 50 years imprisonment for raping and robbing two victims, 20 and 25 years in Northam in August and December 2022 respectively. 


The court noted that during December 2022, the victim was in Northam town when she met the accused, who is from the same area at Mokgalwaneng village.The accused asked her to accompany him to the tavern, but instead of going to the tavern, the accused took the victim, threatened her with a knife, dragged her to the cemetery, and raped her. Afterwards, he robbed her of cash amounting to 300 rands.He then tied her with a rope and left her stranded at the bushes.The victim managed to get help from the passerby.The case was opened at Northam police station, and the docket was transferred to the Thabazimbi Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS). Warrant Officer Derick Masonto was assigned an investigation through his outstanding investigative skill. The accused was traced and arrested and charged on 14 April 2023.


During the identification parade, the accused was discovered to have robbed another 20-year-old victim cellphone valued at R2000 in August 2022 in one of the hardware stores at Northam.


The accused was denied bail.


On 20 May 2025, he was sentenced as follows: rape: 20 years' imprisonment.

 Robbery with aggravating circumstances : 15 years' imprisonment.

He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name was registered in the national register for sex offenders.
