 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Injury


Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi was rushed to hospital for emergency abdominal surgery on Monday following an injury sustained during the team’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Leicester City at the City Ground on Sunday.


The Nigerian international collided with a goalpost while attempting to convert a cross from teammate Anthony Elanga. Despite receiving several minutes of on-field treatment and attempting to continue, the full extent of the injury was not apparent until Forest’s medical staff conducted further assessments on Monday. The club confirmed that Awoniyi was immediately taken for surgery, which is not believed to be life-threatening.


In a statement posted on their X account, Nottingham Forest said, “The Club can confirm Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone urgent surgery following an abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match against Leicester City. Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their best wishes to Taiwo. The Club will provide further updates when appropriate.”
