 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. ‎Bishop Mike Okonkwo of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) has criticised the way political leaders in Nigeria approach governance, stating that many of them focus more on preparing for the next election than solving problems facing the people, during an interview with THE SUN.

‎He pointed to Abia State Governor Alex Otti as an example of what true leadership should look like. he stated  that Otti is not like those politicians who abandoned problems they ought to solve for their people and focus on campaigns and other things.

‎"Honestly, if you go to Aba to talk against Alex Otti, they will stone you. He doesn’t need to come out; he will stay in his house in Umuahia. He will not say anything, they will kill you because there is evidence of performance and that is all that is needed"

‎

‎He urged leaders to perform and voting for you will be easy for them, stating that Nigerians are not easy to please. According to him, Nigerians  want a leader like Otti who can perform well in leadership.
