 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  LAWYERS ALLEGE R. KELLY OVERDOSED, MURDER PLOT


Following an incident in which R&B superstar R. Kelly was hospitalized for two days, his lawyers alleged prison officials gave him an overdose of his medications and plotted to get him cancelled by an inmate.


Kelly's legal team alleged that prison officials placed the singer in solitary confinement before giving him an overdose of his sleep and anxiety medications on June 12, 2025.


"He started to see black spots in his vision," his team said. "Mr. Kelly tried to get up, but fell to the ground. He crawled to the door of the cell and lost consciousness."


Correctional medical staff rushed the 58-year-old by ambulance to Duke University Hospital when they could not help him, but he was allegedly evacuated after two days of treatment against medical advice - and returned to jail.


Robert Kelly is serving a 30-year sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking since 2022. He is serving his sentence in the Federal Correctional Institute facility in Butner, North Carolina.
