Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. Senator Gbenga Daniel (APC, Ogun East), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, has strongly debunked a media report claiming that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was hospitalized in a London medical facility. The senator described the report as baseless and misleading, affirming that the Senate President is alive, healthy, and actively carrying out his duties.


In a statement issued on Monday, Senator Daniel urged the public to disregard the false report, emphasizing that Akpabio remains in good health and is committed to his responsibilities as the nation’s number three citizen. “The Senate President is hale and hearty. These rumors are unfounded and appear to be the work of mischief-makers attempting to cause unnecessary panic,” Daniel said.


The senator called for responsible journalism and urged media outlets to verify information before publication to avoid spreading falsehoods. He also reassured Nigerians that Akpabio is fully engaged in legislative activities and national leadership, with no indication of any health concerns.
