Residents of Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State have raised alarm over what they describe as worsening neglect, as bandit attacks and kidnappings continue to devastate their communities with minimal media coverage.
In a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Agbo Gabriel, the community lamented that they feel abandoned, having endured more than two years without stable electricity, surviving largely on solar power.
According to the statement, the situation escalated on Sunday, September 7, 2025, when armed men stormed Wakeh village in Agunu District, killing eight people, injuring several others, and setting homes and property ablaze.
Other communities including Ankwa, Bishini, and Katari, were also named as frequent targets of armed groups, leaving residents displaced, traumatised, and desperate.
The statement appealed directly to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to urgently address the security crisis. It urged the government to strengthen community surveillance, collaborate with local leaders, and adopt collective measures to protect vulnerable villages.
Rev. Fr. Gabriel emphasised that vigilance has now become a necessity, urging residents to report suspicious activities and support one another in defending their communities.
“The poor people of Kachia town, who once sheltered internally displaced persons from neighbouring villages, are now under attack themselves,” he said.
“Kidnappings from farms and homes occur daily, yet there is almost no media attention. We are forced to ask: where are the correspondents of major news outlets in Kaduna and Kachia?
“Kachia is a land of great promise and should not be left in the shadows,” the statement concluded. “We call on media houses: give Kachia the attention it deserves.”
