 APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ATIKU MUST EXPLAIN THE LEGAL AND FISCAL BASIS OF HIS PETROL SUBSIDY PROPOSAL At his press conference in Abuja on Friday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar reiterated his proposed  “production subsidy” for locally refined petrol, which he said would reduce pump prices. He went further to ask President Bola Tinubu to slash the cost of diesel and petrol at the pump. That proposal raises important legal, fiscal and practical questions that he must answer. Section 205(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 provides that unrestricted free-market conditions shall determine wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, in a statement on Saturday, explained that it neither fixes pump prices nor issues administrative price templates, except where the statutory conditions for intervention are met. 5 arrested in investigation of Robert De Niro’s grandson Leandro’s overdose death

Two years after the death of Robert De Niro’s 19-year-old grandson, Leandro Anthony De Niro-Rodriguez, authorities have arrested five more individuals in connection with the case, law enforcement officials confirmed.

Leandro was found dead on July 2, 2023, from an apparent accidental drug overdose. The suspects, all men, are facing charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances resulting in death. A sixth person, Sofia H. Marks, had been arrested shortly after the incident for allegedly selling drugs to Leandro.

DEA New York Special Agent in Charge Frank Tarentino said the arrests are intended to provide some closure for grieving families and highlight the dangers of social media platforms being used to distribute fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills. “Whether you deal on the screens or in our streets, the DEA and our law enforcement partners remain committed to targeting those responsible. This is a fight to save lives,” he stated.

Leandro’s mother, Drena De Niro, expressed her grief publicly after her son’s passing, describing him as her “joy, my heart, and all that was ever pure and real” in her life. Leandro had appeared in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, playing the son of Bradley Cooper’s character’s friend, as well as in Cabaret Maxime. He was 19 years old.
