 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  Governor Alex Otti Warns Against Election Manipulation, Denies Defection Rumours


Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during a media chat in Abia State yesterday, the governor stated firmly that he remains committed to his current political platform and to serving the people of Abia faithfully.


Otti also issued a strong warning to individuals allegedly plotting to manipulate the 2027 governorship election results, saying: 

“Those planning to write the Abia State governorship election results in 2027 should first write their own will, because this is our state and we cannot be intimidated.”

He emphasized that Abia belongs to its people and that any attempt to subvert the democratic will of the electorate will be met with firm resistance.


The governor reiterated his administration’s focus on good governance, transparency, and development, assuring citizens that no amount of political pressure or intimidation would derail his vision for the state.
