Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. Markazi refugee village, designed for 5,000 people, was already hosting more than 2,700 Yemenis and 1,500 Eritreans. More than 100,000 people have also been displaced ins...

RE: FALSE PUBLICATION ON “UNAUTHORIZED MEETING” AT ENITONA HOTEL, ABA. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE

 PRESS STATEMENT

Re: False Publication on “Unauthorized Meeting” at Enitona Hotel, Aba

My attention has been drawn to a circulating report alleging that I convened or participated in an “unauthorized and suspicious meeting” with traders at Ariaria International Market, Aba, alongside Checkbest International Limited. The report further claimed that I made statements suggesting I am still the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce.

For the avoidance of doubt, the said publication is entirely false, misleading, and deliberately intended to misinform the public and malign my person.

Here are the facts:

1. The meeting in question was not convened by me, but by the Director-General, Public-Private Partnership (DG PPP), in line with the ongoing engagements on the Ariaria Market Remodeling Project as approved by His Excellency, the Governor of Abia State.

2. During the meeting, after the DG PPP's address, I was introduced as a member of the Standing Committee on the Market Remodeling Project, a committee duly constituted by the PPP DG, My presence at the meeting was therefore official.

3. At no time did I convene any meeting on Thursday or at any other time. The only meeting I attended was the one formally convened by the DG PPP, and which took place on Friday, 10th October, 2025.

At no point did I make any statement implying that I remain the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, nor did I make any comment that could be construed as interference in the affairs of that Ministry.

It is, therefore, regrettable and unacceptable that some individuals have chosen to twist a simple official engagement into a false and politically motivated narrative.

I remain committed to serving the people of Abia State with integrity and dedication in my current capacity as Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, and will continue to support the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, in promoting transparency, order, and development across all sectors.

The general public is hereby advised to disregard the false publication in its entirety.

Signed:

Kingsley Chibueze Nwokocha

Commissioner for Labour and Productivity

Abia State
