 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.   25-Year-Old Man Who Killed His Mother Shot by Neighbour


The community of Mosiane View in the North West province has been left in shock after a 25-year-old man brutally killed his 48-year-old mother on Saturday.


A disturbing video circulating on social media shows the young man attacking his mother with a shovel in a gruesome and senseless act of violence.


According to North West police spokesperson, Colonel Sam Tselenyane, the incident took a tragic turn when a neighbour, who tried to intervene, allegedly shot and killed the son in an attempt to stop the attack.


The motive behind the incident remains unclear, but authorities suspect that drug abuse may have influenced the young man’s violent behaviour.


Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
