 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE:


Significant Breakthrough in Armed Robbery/Car Snatch , Suspect Arrested.


The Rivers State Police Command has made another remarkable achievement in a swift operation and investigation into the viral video circulating on the social media space, depicting an armed robbery incident at Choba area of Port Harcourt on October 15, 2025. The incident which occurred at about 1500hrs, involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.


Through intelligence-led Policing and technical support, Operatives of the Command has successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young M. 'm' aged 42 years, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt. 


During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.


The suspect is currently in Police custody, and an in-depth investigation has been launched to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, recover the stolen vehicle, and retrieve the firearms used in the commission of the crime.


The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, has commended the operatives involved in the operation for their diligence and swift response, which led to the suspect's arrest. He has also expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in sharing credible information that facilitated the arrest. The Commissioner has warned that the State will not provide a hiding place for criminals, emphasizing the Command's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the State.
